PROJECTSGALILAYA ORPHANS CENTRE
The orphans centre provides a day facility for children orphaned by HIV/Aids and other vulnerable children. A youth team were led by two founding society members who had travelled to Africa several times on prior projects. They did their own fundraising and travelled to Dodoma, Tanzania to begin work on this project in the spring of 2009.
They covered their own expenses for travel, meals and accommodations and made an incredible start to this building with assistance of local volunteers and workers. In October of 2009 a team of 15 led by a founding member, who is our project committee leader, travelled to Africa and worked in the hot sun. The building was finished to the roofing stage. Further funds are needed to complete this structure.

NKUHUNGU MEDICAL DISPENSARY
A team of eleven volunteers visited Nkuhungu in October of 2007 to work alongside the local people on the renovations to the building. The trip proved to be a great success and wonderful progress was made on the preparation of the building itself.
Our 2008 team consisted of individuals with a medical or health administration background.
In 2009 the society provided funds to enable the clinic to offer Mother and Child Health Care.
If you have medical skills to offer please contact us regarding future trips.
The clinic is providing outpatient services, for diseases such as malaria, typhoid, trachoma, dental and skin disease; HIV/AIDS, mother and child health, malnutrition, and also to provide laboratory and optometric services, birthing rooms and a pharmacy.
We continue to support the Nkuhungu Medical Clinic and Mother & Child Facility. Many in the community are unable to pay the minimal cost of medical treatment.

KIZOTA STUDENT CENTRE - TEACHER TRAINING
In 2007, the Society began the sponsorship of three teachers, who are attending a two year programme at the Eckenford Teachers College in Tanga, Tanzania. This initiative will give these individuals the certification they need to ensure the Kizota School is fully supported by the Government of Tanzania, thereby increasing enrolment and providing long term security for the school.

The three candidates, Lawrence Lukumbo, Ernest Enock and Esther Daudi, successfully completed their first year of training in June. For the 2008-09 session, the cost per candidate amounts to approximately $800 CAD and these funds will continue to be provided from direct donations received by the Society. Thank you to all our generous donors and supporters!
KIZOTA PROJECT - A BRIEF HISTORY
In September 2004, a group of 14 individuals travelled from Victoria Canada to Dodoma Tanzania to assist in the construction of a new school which would directly benefit some 250 children aged three and up. Fundraising had continued through the summer of 2004 with a number of events taking place to involve the wider community.
Many of the children who would benefit from this new school had in some way been touched by the HIV/AIDS pandemic and in addition some 70% had suffered from Malaria. The team threw themselves wholeheartedly into the project at hand and great progress was made in the construction of a four room school, a dining hall and school office. After the team returned to Canada, the local people continued to work on the project with additional funding being sent from Canada over the next several months. A selection of photographs of the Kizota project is available in the photo gallery.
Society members Troy Davidson and Bill Rae spent a six week period in Dodoma during September and October 2005, to continue the work of the 2004 team visit and to assist in the construction of a wall around the compound to provide security, an opportunity to grow food crops and to keep local domestic animals out. This visit did much to strengthen the bonds of friendship between 'For the Love of Africa' and our colleagues in Tanzania.
In October 2006, a team of five individuals spent almost a month in the Dodoma area, in part to complete society involvement in the Kizota School Site. Supported items this year included the completion of the wall around the compound, completion of the washroom facilities for pupils and staff at the school, construction of the septic field area and the installation of a water tank for use on the school premises. By the time the team returned to Canada at the end of October, considerable progress had been made and sufficient funds were left in country to complete the work required.
